BOSNIAN SERB ANTI-AIRCRAFT DEFENCE DEACTIVATED - SAYS SFOR

( Editorial: --> 7198 ) SARAJEVO, Oct 9 (Hina) - A spokesman for the NATO-led peace Stabilisation Force (SFOR) in Bosnia on Friday refuted allegations that the Bosnian Serb army's anti-aircraft systems might be used against NATO aircraft in case of a military intervention against Yugoslavia. The anti-aircraft defence systems in Republika Srpska (the Bosnian Serb entity) and Yugoslavia are not connected as is speculated, spokesman Glenn Chamberlaine told reporters in Sarajevo. All anti-aircraft systems in Bosnia-Herzegovina (BH) were deactivated in December 1995, in line with the Dayton peace agreement's Annexe 1 A, he said. Chamberlaine pointed out that SFOR was constantly controlling all such systems on BH territory as part of their mission aimed at keeping peace and security. (hina) ha 091627 MET oct 98
