PRISTINA, Sept 26 (Hina) - The UN High Commissioner for Refugees,
Sadako Ogata, on Saturday visited about 2,000 displaced Kosovo
Albanians in the Resnik village.
She told reporters that in order for displaced persons to return to
their homes, clashes must cease as soon as possible .
Ogata said she saw sick children among the refugees. International
Committee of the Red Cross team transported about 20 injured people
to a hospital on Pristina.
The people can return to their homes only if they are urgently
ensured safety conditions and if their fear from further violence
is dispersed, she said.
International organisations can contribute significantly to the
humanitarian situation in this Yugoslav province, especially when
it comes to a feeling of security with refugees, Ogata said.
Asked about the deadlines for solving the humanitarian problems in
Kosovo, Ogata said there were no deadlines in humanitarian work.
However, she added, it was absolutely necessary for refugees to be
taken care of before the winter.
Ogata held talks with representatives of Serbian authorities in
Kosovo, the leader of Kosovo Albanians, Ibrahim Rugova, and
representatives of some humanitarian and non-government
organisations in Kosovo.
