ZAGREB, Sept 16 (Hina) - A US military envoy, Lieutenant Colonel
John Adams, visited the Croatian Centre for Clearing Mines in Sisak
(about 50 km south-east from Zagreb) on Wednesday.
The Croatian Government's public relations office said officials
informed Lieutenant Colonel Adams of the centre's organisation and
activities. Its goal is to clear 400 square kilometres of Croatian
territory from mines per year.
Centre head Damir Gortesa presented information on mine clearing
projects currently in progress and the establishment of a
supervisory system in areas cleared of mines.
The head of the Centre suggested several fund raising methods for
certain projects.
The meeting paid particular attention to the issue of locating
mines, for there is no precise information from the terrain on the
distribution of mine fields.
