MOST POLLING STATIONS IN BOSNIA CLOSE

( Editorial: --> 0134 ) SARAJEVO, Sept 13 (Hina) - The majority of the polling stations used in the two-day general election in Bosnia-Herzegovina (BH) was closed at 4PM, Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) mission in BH spokeswoman Nicole Szulc said on Sunday. So far the OSCE Temporary Electoral Commission has not made any formal decision to extend the voting deadline, Szulc said, but added that anybody waiting out of the polling stations after 4PM would not be denied the right to cast their ballot. Technical difficulties which occurred yesterday delayed the opening of 107 polling stations, but only 43 remained closed by the time the casting of ballots was supposed to end. It is believed voters who were unable to cast their ballots at these polling stations by 4PM today might still want to do so. Szulc confirmed that minor problems occurred at a polling station near Zvornik, eastern BH, when one person tried to destroy a ballot box. This only caused a major delay in the casting of ballots, Szulc said. An assessment of the course of this weekend's election is expected to be given by OSCE mission in BH head Robert Barry at a press conference this evening. (hina) ha 131720 MET sep 98
