ZAGREB, Sept 3 (Hina) - Vlatko Pavletic, President of the Croatian
National Parliament and the Organisation for Security and
Cooperation (OSCE) Mission head Tim Guldimann discussed democracy
issues and Croatia's admission into European organisations in
Zagreb on Thursday.
Croatia needs further internal democratic development on the road
towards the European Union, Guldimann said.
He stressed the need for transforming Croatian Television into a
public television.
This could help Croatia, since decisions concerning its future will
be made by international organisations as early as this October,
Guldimann added.
The OSCE Mission head proposed that the procedure for adopting a new
law on television include OSCE experts, who would discuss the law
with parliamentary representatives.
Pavletic stressed the need for tolerance and mutual acceptance of
arguments as well as the need for economic development.
The international community should not only exert political
pressure on Croatia but offer its help, Pavletic added.
Discussions are very useful because they can result in the best
solutions, Pavletic said proposing that OSCE representatives join
in the work of parliamentary committees once the new law on
television is considered.
The final decision on the law will be made by parliament, he added.
