ZAGREB, Aug 30 (Hina) - After viewing sport facilities and
following our talks on preparations for the 2nd World Military
Games in Zagreb, we are sure we will have good conditions for the
Games, secretary-general of the international council for military
sport (CISM), Lieutenant Bernard Hurst, said.
About 4,000 athletes, accompanied by their crews including 1,500-
1,700 people, will participate in the 2nd World Military Games, to
be held in the Croatian capital in August 1999.
The CISM will soon send invitations and information about Zagreb to
its 117 members.
It is expected that the United States and Russia will send 300 to 350
participants each, Hurst said.
He added that the arrival of athletes from Asia, Africa and South
America was also being encouraged.
Today's talks between Croatian representatives and the CISM
delegation focused on accommodation and transport for athletes,
health care, food and entertainment programmes, said Lt Gen Josip
Lucic, president of the Organisational Committee.
The participants will be accommodated mostly in dormitories and if
necessary, in some other facilities.
Most sport facilities already exist but some are yet to be built,
Lucic said.
The 2nd World Military Games will include 22 sports such as rifle
shooting, parachuting, judo, fencing, wrestling, boxing, rowing,
diving, orientation running, football, water polo, handball,
volleyball, basketball.
About 500 Croatian athletes are to participate in the Games.
The 2nd World Military Games will be held under the auspices of the
Croatian President Franjo Tudjman.
