MOSTAR, Aug 19 (Hina) - Head of the Mostar regional office of the
international high representative for Bosnia-Herzegovina, Martin
Garrod, called on all political leaders in the Herzegovina-Neretva
Canton and Mostar to call for the prevention of unauthorised
shooting.
In such a shoot-out, an 18-year-old boy was injured last weekend.
This case is still being investigated, Garrod said.
Spokesman for SFOR's multinational division for Sector Southeast,
Francois Grandeau, said the Stabilisation Force had confiscated
electronic and military equipment from the Croatian Defence
Council (HVO) in June and July. Under the Dayton Agreement, the HVO
was to disarm.
He refuted reports that it was only radio equipment that had been
confiscated.
According to Grandeau, SFOR will decide whether this equipment will
be returned.
He confirmed that the NATO and Partnership for Peace member
countries will hold military training programmes in Macedonia in
September. This, however, has nothing to do with the situation in
Kosovo. The main goal is for relations among these countries to
develop and promote their cooperation, he said.
A spokeswoman for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR),
Ariane Quentier, said that, according to information available to
this organisation, since the signing of the Dayton Agreement to
June 30 of this year, 11,583 Bosniaks (Moslems) had returned to
areas of the Croat-Moslem Bosnian Federation where Croats were in
majority, while 26,210 Croats returned to areas of Bosniak
majority.
