DUBROVNIK, Aug 28 (Hina) - A three-day conference focusing on the
history of Jews on Croatia's eastern coast ended in Dubrovnik
(south Adriatic) on Friday.
The conference, gathering some 60 participants, is a continued
international conference entitled The Social and Cultural History
of Jews on the Eastern Adriatic Coast by 1808 which took place two
years ago.
Director of the international centre of Croatian universities,
Ivana Burdjelez, said Croatian scientists and workers in culture
had had the opportunity to find out facts from rabbi and Hebrew
sources about the history of urban centres from Split and Dubrovnik
to the Neretva valley.
This conference was important because it had gathered prominent
people of the Mediterranean Jewish public life, including
Jeruzalem's deputy mayor David Cassuto and the president of the
Italian Jewish Community, Tullia Zevi, Burdjelez said.
