VINKOVCI, Aug 20 (Hina) - By August 12 2,738 displaced families,
that is, 7,531 individuals returned to the Croatian Danube River
region, as recorded by the Regional Office for Refugees and
Displaced Persons in Vinkovci (eastern Croatia).
According to the Office head, Ante Drmic, another 5,000 refugees
who have not established their returnee status have also returned
to the region.
"We can say now that more than 12,000 persons have returned to the
Danubian area, and considering the numerous circumstances
influencing the dynamics of the return, we can be happy with the
number of returnees," Drmic said.
The least number of persons to return was to locations with a Serb
majority.
About one fourth of exiled people have returned to the Vukovar-
Srijem County, about 12,000 of them out of a total of 45,145 persons
since 1991, Drmic said.
