UPDATE ON FIRES IN DALMATIA

( Editorial: --> 3875 ) ZAGREB, 15 Aug (Hina) - The fire near the settlement of Celina, Omis municipality (Split County) is active on its northern front. The fire has mainly consumed underbrush, the Government Crisis Committee said in a report at 2pm Saturday. Around 12.00 a fire broke out in the area of Dugo Polje-Koprivno (on the Split-Sinj road). Professional and volunteer fire brigades and army members are participating in containing the fire. Fires were also reported on the island of Vir (west of Zadar) and near Gracac (Zadar hinterland). Professional fire brigades and army members are fighting the fire. The fire on Mt Svilaja in Sibenik County has been put under control, except for higher areas which cannot be reached by fire brigades. The fire near Oklaj, which has consumed about 370 hectares of land, is under control. There are no fire scenes on Korcula island, according to the latest report. During the morning, fire brigades were fighting the remaining fire scenes. Planes for fighting fire are still drenching fire-ravaged areas. (hina) rml 151628 MET aug 98
