GOVT CRISIS COMMITTEE ISSUES REPORT ON FIRE-AFFECTED AREAS

( Editorial: --> 3677 ) ZAGREB, 14 Aug (Hina) - The fire on Korcula is active on the northern part of the island but the situation is stable since there is no wind, the Government Crisis Committee said at 12.00 Friday. Local fires in the area of Cara and Smokvica are under control. Inhabited settlements are not in danger. The fire is being fought with two Canadair planes from Croatia, two Austrian helicopters and an Italian G-222 plane. Local fire brigades are also assisted by French special firefighting forces, the report said. The fire on Mt Svilaja (Split hinterland) has been put under control. About 80 hectares of grass and underbrush have been consumed by the fire. The fire on Lastovo island has been contained and there are no active fire scenes.
