ZAGREB, 12 Aug (Hina) - Green Action "SOS for Adriatic" on Wednesday
started its "Coal? - No, Thanks" campaign against the construction
of thermal power plants on the Adriatic coast.
The movement's local groups this morning displayed placards and
performed plays in Pula, Opatija, Bibinje, Split and Biograd,
warning about the need for a more effective use of electric power
and renewable energy sources.
"We are trying to influence decisions on the construction of
thermal power plants so that these projects could be cancelled or
postponed until 2010, which would give alternative energy sources a
chance, Toni Vidan of Green Action said.
Vidan also announced an educational exhibition on new solar energy
technologies, which is to take place September 1-27 in 19 Croatian
coastal towns.
