EUROPEANS PROMOTE ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS IN CROATIA

( Editorial: --> 7611 ) ZAGREB, July 19 (Hina) - A series of workshops promoting environmental issues were held in two Croatian cities this week as part of the Sustainable Europe Tour (SET). The arrival of a dozen or so young European artists, ecologists and musicians was organised by the Attack independent culture factory and Green Action. SET was established in Berlin in 1996 with the aim of promoting individual and political changes which would enable a resolution of social and environmental problems in an unforced and legal way. They are trying to accomplish this through organising workshops, lectures, performances and concerts. This year's third annual European tour included Hungary, Austria and Slovenia, and following Zagreb and Rijeka in Croatia, the tour continued on to France and German. Organisers say that in every country they want to give support to local groups and show them that positive changes can be made even with just several creative people. The promotion is financially supported by European Union foundations, artists and several groups. As part of their first visit to the Croatian capital Zagreb, SET held workshops which showed how sculptures could me made from recycled and bulk waste, as well other interesting themes including how to live on a tree during protests against the logging of forests. A lecture on the theme "Sustainable Life in the City - How to Use Less" was held in the new premises of Attack in Zagreb, as well as a Street Day event in a central city square where performers used solar instruments and an environmental display was set up.
