DRNIS, Aug 10 (Hina) - More air and land support has been sought by
firefighters in the Drnis area after small fires fanned by strong
westerly winds on Monday quickly turned into a blaze which is
threatening homes in the settlement of Cupici.
The once war-damaged homes were just recently reconstructed and the
quickly spreading flames have caused the closure of the Trbounje-
Miljevci road since 2pm.
The fire erupted about noon near the settlement of Marina just
outside the village of Trbounje and despite Drnis firefighters
quickly arriving on the scene, the flames were spread by the winds
and threatened Cupici.
Family homes in Marina were saved when firefighters and Croatian
Army troops with water tankers managed to stop the blaze there.
But the continuing spread of flames in other directions has
resulted in the local firefighters appealing for assistance from
other brigades and air support units in the Sibenik-Knin County.
