ZAGREB, Aug 7 (Hina) - France will send two "canadair" firefighting
planes to assist in putting out fires in Dubrovnik-Neretva County
in southern Croatia, the Croatian government's crisis committee
reported on Friday.
The French Embassy in Zagreb notified the last night-established
crisis committee that France would respond to Croatia's appeal for
help in firefighting.
The planes will arrive in Split, on the southern Croatian coast,
around 3pm.
Yesterday Croatia made an appeal to France and Italy asking for
firefighting aircraft.
Italy regretted that all "canadair" planes had already been sent to
Greece, which has also been plagued by large fires.
Assistance in manpower has been offered by Slovenia, while Austria
offered firefighting helicopters.
According to the crisis committee they could not be used due to
technical equipment which is inadequate for firefighting along the
Croatian coastline.
