COMMISSION FOR MEDIA TO START WORK IN AUGUST

( Editorial: --> 0822 ) SARAJEVO, July 30 (Hina) - The Independent Media Commission (IMC) established on June 11 this year, will begin work on Saturday, August 1. According to a decision by the International High Representative for Bosnia-Herzegovina, Carlos Westendorp, the IMC's task would be to ensure that the radio, television and press in Bosnia- Herzegovina are to start doing their work in line with European standards, IMC Public Relations director, Dieter Loralne, said in Sarajevo on Thursday. The Commission will be responsible for the establishment of a regular and open process of issuing permits and regulating broadcasts by radio and television stations, as well as the management of the frequency spectre to prevent inter-disturbances, Loralne said. The IMC has established a code regulating television and radio programmes which applies to all broadcasting stations. The code will come into effect on August 1, he said. The IMC's policy will be established by a seven-member council comprising of four members from Bosnia-Herzegovina and three international representatives. They will be appointed for no longer than three years. Swede Krister Thelin was appointed director of the IMC, and USA's Robert Gillete as his deputy. (hina) lml jn 301756 MET jul 98
