MOSTAR, July 6 (Hina)- Interior Minister of the Herzegovina-
Neretva canton, Valentin Coric, requested on Monday from the police
in east Mostar to investigate the shooting in that part of town
after the most recent victory of Croatia's national team at the
World Cup in France.
During the shooting a 25 year old woman was killed while sitting at a
cafe near the train station and a 67 year old man was injured in the
head, chief of the High Representative's Mostar office, Martin
Garrod, reported on Sunday.
A statement by the cantonal Interior Ministry claims that "so far
the Interior Minister Valentic Coric has not been officially
informed about the shooting, nor have Croat and international
police taken part in on the spot investigation".
The Sarajevo daily Oslobodjenje on Monday identified the seriously
wounded man as Husein Djelilovic, father-in-law of Mostar's mayor
Safet Orucevic.
Following the tragic incident, the families of the casualties
received condolences from the prefect of the Herzegovina-Nereteva
canton, Zeljko Obradovic. He asked for "a thorough investigation"
into the incident and appealed to the press and representatives of
the international community to abstain from rash presumptions
about the causes of that tragic incident.
