ZAGREB, July 1 (Hina) - A performance by the group Kodo - which was
warmly received by the Zagreb audience - on Tuesday night ended this
year's "Eurokaz" theatre festival.
The 12th annual festival has been running since June 24 and featured
15 performances by groups from Croatia and abroad.
"Kodo" (meaning heart beat and children of drums) performed for the
first time in front of a Croatian audience, playing the traditional
Japanese drums "taiko" which in ancient Japan represented the
village community.
Borders then were not decided by geography but by the furthest point
where the drums could be heard.
Kodo carries out the idea of bringing communities together in
performances across the world. Since it was formed in 1981, the
group has had 1,900 concerts in 29 countries.
The main theme of this year's Eurokaz was the traditional theatre of
the Far East.
Also presented in the festival for the first time was Khatakali, an
Indian original theatre form, by the International Centre for
Khatakali from Delhi and Noh theatre, performed by the Tokyo
theatre group Bai-Yu-Kai.
