ZAGREB, June 10 (Hina) - The Croatian Democratic Union's (HDZ)
National Council on Wednesday attacked moves by some of its Bosnian
Croat officials to form a new party.
A statement from the governing party's secretariat said a HDZ
National Council meeting chaired by Croatian President and party
leader Franjo Tudjman discussed current political issues.
It said the national council took the view that the decision by
several officials of the HDZ's Bosnia-Herzegovina wing to form a
new party was politically mistaken and unjustifiable, as well as
contrary to an agreement reached on June 5 in Zagreb on maintaining
the HDZ BH's unity.
But it expressed a belief that this move would not endanger the
equality and sovereignty of the Croat people in BH.
Meanwhile, the HDZ National Council gave its full support to the
Croatian Government's proposal to revise the state budget for
1998.
It particularly expressed satisfaction with the large increase in
budget revenues which would exclude the need to borrow from abroad
and would allow considerably greater investment in the building of
infrastructure, reconstruction, rural development and
agriculture, social welfare, science, culture and general increase
in the standard of living for all Croatian citizens.
The HDZ National Council also backed the government's final bill on
the rights and responsibilities of state officials and the final
bill on separating Croatian Post and Telecommunications (HPT) into
two separate enterprises, Croatian Post and Croatian
Telecommunications.
