ZAGREB, June 4 (Hina) - Teachers from elementary and secondary
schools, commenced a one-day strike 7.00am Thursday, organised by
the Croatian Teacher's Union and the Independent Secondary School
Employees Union.
The Unions are seeking a salary increase of 12.5 per cent.
Discussions between the Unions and the government have been going
on for six months regarding these requests, apparently
unsuccessfully.
Two school Unions organised a stoppage on May 20 to warn the
Government of the seriousness of their intentions.
If no agreement is reached within reasonable time, the Unions have
announced a full-blown strike which might last several days and
bring into question the regular end of the school year.
