PRISTINA, May 26 (Hina) - Kosovo Albanian sources have reported
that Serbian security forces on Tuesday commenced an attack with
heavy artillery on Decani, while Serbian snipers were shooting at
passers-by.
Several Albanians were wounded and several dozen houses were
destroyed in the Decani municipality, the same source said.
Sources of the strongest Kosovo Albanian party, the Democratic
Alliance of Kosovo, reported that inhabitants of Decani and nearby
villages, together with the units of the Kosovo Liberation Army,
were giving strong resistance to the Serbian forces.
The Kosovo Information Centre reported that the shelling of the
village of Kepuz near Klina continued today, while the situation in
the Djakovica municipality, especially in border villages, was
still difficult.
The Serbian pro-government Media Centre in Pristina did not report
about those events, but did say that members of the Yugoslav Army
who are securing the Yugoslav-Albanian border were attacked around
5.30pm on Monday.
The Yugoslav soldiers returned fire, Media Centre reported.
The Serbian authorities have put the blame for the attack on armed
Albanians who are located in villages in the border belt on the
Yugoslav side of the border.
