VUKOVAR, April 16 (Hina) - Three ships from the Sisak-based river
shipping company Dunavski Lloyd accompanied by 14 smaller vessels
arrived in Vukovar's port on the Danube River.
The arrival of Sloga, Kumrovec and Osijek with the tank-boats, tugs
and barges meant the return of the most valuable part of Dunavski
Lloyd's fleet, which was forced to remain in the Bulgarian port of
Vidina for six and a half years.
Dunavski Lloyd director Zeljko Milkovic the arrival marked an
"important day for this company and Croatian river shipping".
He recalled that the boats had been in Bulgaria since September 1,
1991 when due to the Serbian aggression on Croatia, they were unable
to travel through Yugoslav territory to return to their home port in
Sisak.
National Trust Establishment Committee vice-president Ivica Vrkic
said the return of the boats was an "important step" in the
reintegration of Vukovar and the whole Croatian Danube region.
