SARAJEVO, March 24 (Hina) - Police in Sarajevo have arrested
another Serb suspected of war crimes. The Sarajevo Canton Public
prosecutor confirmed on Tuesday that Dragan Pejic, 39, had been
arrested on Monday in the Sarajevo area under a well-founded
suspicion that he committed crimes against the civilian
population.
After the arrest he was brought before the investigative judge and
then kept in custody, says a statement by the Prosecutor.
Charges against Pejic for violation of the Geneva convention on
protection of civilians during the war were pressed on 27 July 1995
by the public prosecutor in the Bosnian capital. His file was
subsequently sent to the ICTY, which indicted him on Monday.
Aisling Burne, spokeswoman of the Sarajevo Office of High
Representative for Bosnia-Herzegovina, stated on Tuesday that
Pejic's case was still being investigated.
However, UN spokesman Liam McDowall said on Tuesday that
the International Police Transitional Force learned about Pejic's
arrest from newspapers, while Sarajevo Canton Interior Minister
Ismet Dahic stated that members of the IPTF had been timely informed
about Pejic's arrest.
