CAKOVEC, March 15 (Hina) - Croatian police last night arrested an
Italian national from Treviso, aged 50, while he was attempting to
smuggle 4,750 g of cocaine from Hungary into Croatia via the border
crossing of Gorican.
So far, this is the biggest case of drugs confiscation in the
Medjimurje police district, police officials told a press
conference on Sunday.
Around 9pm last night, a police officer noticed that Italian G.P.
was behaving strangely while crossing the border.
Following a reaction by the police officer, G.P. tried to escape,
but was caught by a customs employee and the police officer.
During a search, cocaine was found under the corset G.P. was wearing
and in the legs of his trousers.
It was confirmed that the cocaine was 97 per cent pure, with its
black market value amounting to some DM 1 million.
G.P. was taken to the county investigative court in Varazdin, which
made a decision on his detention.
