( Editorial: --> 5032 ) ZAGREB, Feb 27 (Hina) - A two-day international conference, "Legal Consequences of Disintegration of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRJ) in Areas of Property and Housing Law", started in Zagreb on Friday. The conference was organised with the intention of speeding up the solution of property and housing questions of citizens of the former Yugoslavia, in particular displaced people and refugees. The conference was organised by the Croatian Legal Centre, Institute Open Society - The Project of Forced Migration and the town of Osijek. The event is held under the auspices of the Council of Europe Secretary General Daniel Tarschys. Participating in the conference are more than 100 renown scientists, experts and representatives of government and non- government organisations from Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, Slovenia and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, as well as representatives of U.N. international organisations, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Council of Europe, European Union and others. The conference is to open several topics, such as the effect of the break up of the SFRJ on the change of nature of legal relations, the legal regime of real estate ownership under conditions of disintegration of the SFRJ, the legal fate of property of citizens of the former Yugoslavia according to the Dayton Agreement, Erdut Agreement on Peaceful Reintegration of the Croatian Danubian Region and the Agreement on the Normalisation of Relations Between Croatia and Yugoslavia. Along with property and housing problems of individuals, the conference will also tackle the property of legal entities, which until the break-up of the SFRJ was owned by that state or was socially-owned with federation organs having the right to use it.
