RIJEKA, Feb 23 (Hina) - Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Prefect
Milivoj Brozina and Rijeka mayor Slavko Linik on Monday separately
received the United States Ambassador to Croatia William
Montgomery.
During these meetings the US Ambassador stated that US economists
wish to cooperate with Rijeka and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County,
particularly because of their favourable geographic location.
At a meeting with displaced persons and refugees who still reside in
Rijeka and its surrounding areas, Ambassador Montgomery said that
the US government and he personally would like all displaced
persons to return to their homes and that this is one of the basic
conditions for long term stability in the region.
Croatian displaced persons from Vukovar said that they could not
return because their homes are illegally occupied and because of
insecurity, while refugees from Bosnia-Herzegovina advocated
international pressure on all authorities in that country to create
conditions for the return of displaced persons.
