UNKNOWN PERSONS ATTACK THREE MOSLEM WOMEN IN STOLAC

( Editorial: --> 5880 ) MOSTAR, 20 Jan (Hina) - The International Police Task Force (IPTF) in Mostar announced on Tuesday that three Bosniak (Moslem) women had been attacked in Stolac last weekend, suffering light injuries. The news of Saturday's attacks was also confirmed by police in the Croat-controlled town in southern Bosnia-Herzegovina. IPTF Mostar spokeswoman Kelly Moore said two men, one armed with a pistol, attacked two Bosniak women, who had arrived in an announced visit. The women were told to leave and never return, Moore said. A second incident on Saturday occurred when, according to Moore, three unknown men attacked a Bosniak woman who was visiting a friend. According to the IPTF's Stolac commander Steven Smith, the three Bosniak women were lightly injured, receiving bruises to the head. One of the women received a light fracture to the face and sought medical help in Mostar hospital, Smith said. Neill Wright, head of the UN High Commission for Refugees in southern Bosnia-Herzegovina, said he hoped Stolac police would conduct a professional investigation. The Stolac police headquarters on Tuesday confirmed Saturday's incidents. (Hina) jn mb 201753 MET jan 98
