To date, 995 foreign monitors have applied to observe the voting,
while there are 5864 Croatian observers.
The coalition of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Croatian
Social Liberal Party (HSLS) lodged a complaint with the Commission
that the chairman of the management of the firm "Tvin" in the town of
Virovitica had ordered to all employees with the company to work on
January 3, the day of election proclaimed as a holiday. The
Commission therefore has sent authorised labour inspection to
check it.
Ramuscak reiterated that under a decree signed by the Government,
January 3 as well as January 24 (the date of presidential election)
would be days of rest and those days would also be paid.
Commenting on announcements of 30 odd candidacies for the coming
presidential election, Ramuscak said this phenomenon should be
analysed by scholars and experts.
