Radic said today was a historical day not only for the south, but for
the entire Croatia. He added late Croatian President Franjo Tudjman
wanted to inaugurate himself the commencement of construction on
the Split-Zagreb highway in Dugopolje.
"I am opening this highway on his behalf, paying our respects for
the huge support he gave this project. Today we begin a historical
deed of which generations of Croats have dreamt," said Radic.
"I invite the Doubting Thomases to drive from Split to Zagreb, or
vice versa, on 31 December 2004, when the highway will be open for
traffic in its entirety, in less than three hours. That is the date
on all the contracts we have signed with international investors
and contractors who also ensured part of the loan funds for the
construction of the highway. Nothing will stop us in this, it is the
state's chief strategic project," the minister said.
In attendance were numerous local residents and political and
economic figures.
