NEW YORK, Dec 26 (Hina) - Lidia Bastianich, aged 52, was proclaimed the best chef of the United States last Thursday. She will receive the award "James Beard" which Americans also call 'Oscar' for culinary arts.
NEW YORK, Dec 26 (Hina) - Lidia Bastianich, aged 52, was proclaimed the best chef of the United States last Thursday. She will receive the award "James Beard" which Americans also call 'Oscar' for culinary arts.#L# Lidia Bastianich is the owner and chef of a prestigious restaurant "Felidia" in Manhattan, as well as a part owner of another two restaurants in New York and one in Kansas City. As one can see from her surname - Bastianich - Lidia Bastianich is of the Croatian descent. She was born on the peninsula of Istria and while she was a child she moved in the United States with her parents. She opened her first restaurant in the States in 1971. Since then she has been very successful in this business. "Felidia" has been one of the best New York restaurants for a few years. It is run by Mrs. Bastianich, her son Joseph Bastianich and a cook, Mario Batali. Mrs. Bastianich is the host of a TV show about cooking, broadcast by the public television PBS once a week. She is the author of a book about north Italian cuisine. She has said that cooking for her is a challenge and adventure in which she tries to play with tastes and spices which she remembers from her childhood. Nowadays she cultivates such spices in the garden of her house in Queens. The "trademark" of her cuisine is octopus salad, filled pasta and a dish like Istrian specialities. (hina) ms
