ZAGREB, Dec 17 (Hina) - Rudolf Sremec, a film director, screenwriter, film critic and publisher, died in Zagreb last night aged 91. Sremec was born in Vinkovci and graduated from Zagreb's Faculty of Philosophy, departments Slavic
studies, French language and history. He was one of the most important Croatian documentary film authors and the writer-director of 90 short films. He received a series of international awards, including an Oscar for the script of the cartoon 'Surrogate', which earned director Dusan Vukotic an Oscar in 1961. Sremec was the editor-in-chief of the magazine 'Filmska kultura', and published a book of reviews and essays. He taught film history at the Zagreb Faculty of Philosophy and was a member of the juries of international film festivals in Oberhausen, Mannheim, and Krakow. He was also given the 'Vladimir Nazor' life-achievement award.(hina) rml
