ZAGREB, Dec 16 (Hina) - The Croatian Telecommunication management
board respects all regulations of a collective agreement and
obligations towards trade unions, so there is no reason for a strike
of HT workers, Croatian Maritime, Transport and Communications
Minister Ivan Pavlovic told Thursday's session of the Croatian
Government, commenting on the announcement of a general strike in
the HT, which is to take place on December 21.
The strike was announced by the state trade union of the Croatian
Post and Telecommunications workers. They stressed that the reason
for the strike was not respecting the branch collective agreement
of the HT, particularly the part referring to overtime and the
organisation of working hours. The trade union also said that
another reason was the dismissal of ten postmen from southern
Adriatic city of Split in 1992. The court process is being conducted
on the issue.
As far as I am concerned this is impudent, said Croatian Finance
Minister Borislav Skegro.
These days we are witnessing the transformation of trade union
heads into politicians, and trade unions into political parties,
Skegro said and added it was logical to expect such activities two
to three weeks before elections.
According to information received from the Government, the average
salary in the HT amounts to DM1,125. The HT pays additional DM100
for child allowance, and Christmas bonus amounts to DM375, but
apparently this is not enough Pavlovic said.
The strike of the HT was to be held on December 15 but it had been
delayed due to the death of Croatian President Franjo Tudjman.
