SPLIT WORKERS START GENERAL STRIKE SPLIT, Dec 16 (Hina) - About 3,000 employees and 800 subcontractors of the Croatian shipbuilding industry of "Brodosplit" started a general strike on Thursday. The Brodosplit Independent Trade Union
previously announced that workers would start a strike unless salaries for November were paid by 14.00 hours Tuesday. The Brodosplit management board failed to raise DM1 million, the amount necessary for the payment of salaries. Brodosplit director Vinko Rosic said that the shipyard was not able to ensure funds from its current business transactions, and no information was received from the Government. Rosic said he understood the dissatisfaction of the workers, adding, however, the discontinuation of work was the worst solution at the present moment. Representatives of the Trade Union said that workers ran out of patience, and they would no longer extend the deadline for the payment of salaries.(hina) it
