"By the Constitution and fate I have been delegated to, in this most
hard moment, inform the citizens of the Republic of Croatia and all
Croatians outside of the country that the big heart of Franjo
Tudjman, statesman and creator of the state, and the first
president of the modern, independent, sovereign, democratic
Republic of Croatia has stopped beating.
Undeniable are the credits of this historian in the creation of our
modern history, in the final realisation of the dream of
innumerable generations, a dream immortalised only in the last
decade of the second millennium by restoring the establishment,
existence and international recognition of the State of Croatia.
Not only his fellow-soldiers, associates, followers and admirers,
not only the grief-stricken Croatian people, but all his unjust
opposers, are aware at this moment of the greatness of the loss
comparable only with the greatness of his person predestined for
victories, even for the final victory over death by unannullable
lasting in Croatian history.
Written with inerasable letters in the memorial book of great
people who market their time, the name of Franjo Tudjman will remain
a symbol of determination, courage, persistence and superlative
political ability, as well as an inspiration for all those who will
primarily be able to and know how to learn from him how to remain
erect in a merciless windswept position, in the representation and
defence of the interests not only the free and independent, but also
the unbreakably erect Croatia.
Let us not suppress our sorrow, let us not stop the tears for the
death of a great man, but let us also remain erect and prepared with
dignity to continue with harmony building the democratic Croatia,
our beautiful Democroatia, in the memory of Tudjman and in the
measure and interest of every of its citizen, in line with its past,
and future dedication to the ideals of freedom and social justice.
