This show, "Treasures of Ottoman Art", organised under auspices of
Croatian President Franjo Tudjman, has been staged on occasion of
the 700th anniversary of the Osmanli cultural and scholarly
heritage, which is being marked all over the world this year.
Thanks to good relations between Croatia and Turkey, Zagreb has
been honoured to host this event and put on display about 150
invaluable exhibits dating back between the 15th and 19th century.
At Tuesday's party, held on occasion of closing the show, it was
said that over 30,000 visitors saw the show over six weeks. Besides
Croatians, groups from Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Hungary
also came to visit it.
At the opening of the exhibition, Croatia's Culture Minister Bozo
Biskupic proposed that all proceeds from the entrance fees be given
for aid to those who were stricken by the strong quake in Turkey.
The head of this project, Biserka Rauter-Plancic, thanked all who
helped carry out this project and announced that for two year Zagreb
may host another valuable show of exhibits from the Ankara-based
Museum of Anadolian Civilisation.
