establishment of long-term cooperation between Croatian and
Italian policemen, particularly in the area of prevention of
illegal immigrations.

The participant in the Trieste meeting also considered the issue of
speedy and qualitative identification of citizens, as a great
number of crimes has been committed in Italy by persons who
possessed stolen Croatian passports.
Commenting on the current situation as regards illegal crossings
over the sea border, Trieste Prefect Michele De Feis said the
situation was not still alarming but asked the Croatian side to
undertake stricter control in its area.
The Istrian Police Superintendent, Milan Pamper, told reporters
that the delegation of Croatia's Interior Ministry asked for
assistance in view to the implementation of the Schengen Agreement,
and suggested the shifting of the Schengen boundary line toward the
east. In this way, better control of eastern borders could be
conducted, and it was a condition for the prevention of illegal
crossings over frontiers, Pemper maintained.
Italian Ambassador said the bilateral relations between his
country and Croatia reached its positive peak and there is no
dispute between them. Ambassador Pigliapoco added that Italy
supported Croatia's bids to enter the European Union and NATO.
