Within very good relations between Croatia and Italy it has been agreed upon notifying each other of arrests and cases of keeping some persons in custody, as we want to react more effectively, stressed Croatia's Consul-General in Trieste, Vjekoslav Tomasic. The participant in the Trieste meeting also considered the issue of speedy and qualitative identification of citizens, as a great number of crimes has been committed in Italy by persons who possessed stolen Croatian passports. Commenting on the current situation as regards illegal crossings over the sea border, Trieste Prefect Michele De Feis said the situation was not still alarming but asked the Croatian side to undertake stricter control in its area. The Istrian Police Superintendent, Milan Pamper, told reporters that the delegation of Croatia's Interior Ministry asked for assistance in view to the implementation of the Schengen Agreement, and suggested the shifting of the Schengen boundary line toward the east. In this way, better control of eastern borders could be conducted, and it was a condition for the prevention of illegal crossings over frontiers, Pemper maintained. Italian Ambassador said the bilateral relations between his country and Croatia reached its positive peak and there is no dispute between them. Ambassador Pigliapoco added that Italy supported Croatia's bids to enter the European Union and NATO. (hina) ms
