OSIJEK, Nov 16 (Hina) - Next year, 3.5 square kilometres in the eastern Croatian Osijek-Baranja County will be cleared of mines, which is significantly more than what was achieved this year in the county, director of the Croatian
Mine-Clearance Centre, Damir Gorseta, said in Osijek Tuesday. Traffic infrastructure, gaspipes, power-transmission lines, agricultural surfaces and locations envisaged for the development of industry will have priority status, Gorseta said at a meeting with local officials. So far foreign donors have financed only ten per cent of mine-clearance projects in Croatia, but according to announcements, the international community will invest significantly more into the mine-clearing project. It is assessed that the mine-clearing process in Osijek-Baranja County, as well as in the entire Croatia, will last at least another ten years, Gorseta said.(hina) lml jn
