JELAVIC REQUESTS BETTER LAW ON BOSNIA'S BORDER POLICE

SARAJEVO, Nov 8 (Hina) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ante Jelavic, has criticisms against the bill on border police of Bosnia-Herzegovina as drafted by the High representative's Office (OHR) and wants a better bill before a parliament discussion, Jelavic's office said in a statement Monday. The statement, signed by Jelavic's advisor Tihomir begic, stressed that claims that Jelavic was trying to obstruct the passing of the law regulating the control of Bosnia's borders were malicious. Begic recalled that all three members of the Bosnia-Herzegovina Presidency had signed a statement on the establishment of a border service, but any of them have the right and duty to warn about any provision they hold dubious. The bill on border police which was last week presented to members of the Presidency did not receive Jelavic's and Zivko Radisic's support. Alija Izetbegovic supported the bill in whole. A

According to information at hand, the Croat and Serb side deem a provision according to which the unified state border and a belt of 30km would be controlled by police as dubious, because this would practically suspend the authority of local police troops.
