ROME, Oct 29 (Hina) - Key international subjects, including the
situation in the south-east of Europe with an accent on the
situation in Kosovo and Bosnia-Herzegovina, as well as cooperation
between the two countries were focuses of talks between Croatian
Foreign Minister Mate Granic and his Italian counterpart Lamberto
Dini, the Italian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Friday.
Dini and Granic "expressed satisfaction with bilateral relations
and the intention of strengthening them on all fields of mutual
interest".
Especially accentuated was the care for the Italian minority in
Croatia and the maintenance of its cultural identity.
In this sense, the two stressed that the "agreement on the rights of
minorities of November 1996 was a firm point in relations between
Italy and Croatia," the statement read, stressing the importance of
expanding cooperation in the Adriatic sea not just regarding its
protection, but regarding security as well.
"Regarding relations with the European Union, Dini stressed the
need to invest all efforts to harmonise internal standards with
European ones," the statement said, adding that it was necessary to
create conditions envisaged by the Stability pact.
"Minister Granic gave guarantees that the Croatian side intends to
apply the agreements, as well as continue the democratisation
process and cooperation with the international community," the
statement said.
After the talks the two ministers signed agreements on avoiding
double taxation and scientific and technological cooperation.
