GOVT REP HANDS KEYS TO 23 FLATS TO WAR VICTIMS' FAMILIES

BELI MANASTIR, Oct 26 (Hina) - Croatian Reconstruction, Development and Immigration Minister Jure Radic on Tuesday gave keys to 23 flats in the eastern Croatian town of Beli Manastir to the families of Homeland War victims. The Ministry constructed a block of flats for these families, in which it invested 6.5 million kuna (about US$915,500). "With these flats the Croatian state wishes to in at least a small measure compensate for everything you have suffered and been through," Radic said speaking to Homeland War invalids and other victims. He said the bid for the construction of the block of flats had been published during the temporary occupation of the Danubian area, and this was the first newly-constructed building in the liberated area. The Baranja region, of which Beli Manastir is the centre, is the richest part of Croatia and I am sure a time will come soon when material riches for the rest of Croatia will

He added the Government had granted 350 million kuna (US$49.3 million) of direct financial assistance for the economic development of the agricultural and food-processing plant Belje, which is the future of the economic and other development of Baranja. Radic called on all residents of Baranja, notwithstanding their nationality, to jointly, as true citizens of Croatia, build the future of Croatia. Osijek-Baranja County Prefect Branimir Glavas recalled the great damage suffered by the economy of this county, assessed at DM6.5 billion. (hina) lml jn
