SARAJEVO, Oct 24 (Hina) - Sarajevo-based daily "Oslobodjenje" on
Sunday reported French terrorist Lionel Dumont, guilty of a series
of serious robberies and murders around Europe, had recently been
seen in Zenica, a town in central Bosnia.
Dumont escaped from a Sarajevo prison in May.
"Oslobodjenje" quoted an unnamed trustworthy source, while Zenica
police confirmed they had received an anonymous call about Dumont's
arrival.
During the Bosnian conflict earlier this decade, Dumont fought in
the El-Moujahid unit of the Army of Bosnia-Herzegovina. On 16 July
1997 he was sentenced by a Zenica court to a maximum 20-year
imprisonment for robbery, murder, and terrorism.
The French judiciary requested Dumont's extradition due to his
involvement in robberies and terrorism perpetrated in European
countries.
The authorities of the Croat-Muslim federation, one of Bosnia's two
entities, granted the extradition request, but Dumont escaped from
prison on 26 May. The circumstances have never been cleared; the
official report stated Dumont had taken the opportunity to escape
when the guards were watching a soccer game.
