SARAJEVO, Oct 16 (Hina) - The Sarajevo-based command of
international Stabilisation Force (SFOR) in Bosnia-Herzegovina
(SFOR), on Saturday refused all objections referring to a operation
which SFOR troops conducted in the southern city of Mostar on
October 14.
The SFOR command reiterated that during that operation serious
evidence was collected about illegal activities of secret
services.
According to a statement forwarded to the media on Saturday, the
Mostar action put an end to activities of subversive individuals
and groups.
The statement read that such action had to be taken as local
authorities refused to take measures aimed at preventing threats to
the implementation of the Dayton Agreement.
Four buildings were searched, and SFOR troops found pieces of arms
such as "Uzi" machine-gun with the silencer, ammunition and
explosive devices including hand-launcher shells.
In addition, they impounded documents that indicate some
suspicious activities of illegal intelligence services and illegal
financial transactions.
Machines for making credit cards, bank cards and a large amount of
cash were also found during the operation.
Adequate receipt were given for all impounded money, read the
statement adding that all confiscated material will be either
handed to authorised bodies to initiate investigations or given
back to their legal owners.
SFOR stressed that premises of the TV house "Erotel" were not of any
special significance for the goal of the search, while pictures
were taken of persons who happened to be there during the search,
for security reasons.
No woman was stripped naked as some media claimed, and women were
frisked exclusively by female military soldiers who did not use any
force.
The only injured person broke his leg while he was trying to attack
SFOR troops with an iron bar.
The SFOR command emphasised that it would not tolerate any call for
violent demonstrations, and SFOR soldiers would remain deployed on
the ground to prevent further illegal activities.
