The funeral was held exactly at the 21st anniversary of the death of
Busic who was assassinated in Paris on 16 October 1978 by the
Yugoslav secret police known as UDBA. Busic's remains were
transferred from France to Croatia last Monday.
On behalf of Croatia's President Franjo Tudjman, his envoy Mrs.
Ljerka Mintas-Hodak - a Croatian Vice Premier - gave a farewell
speech in Mirogoj.
She said the entire Croatia was today paying last respects to Bruno
Busic, his life and work as a writer, historian, journalist and
patriot.
Mintas-Hodak described Bruno Busic as one of most famous figures in
recent Croatian history. He was a man who incorporated his life and
his work, through his death like a martyr, into the foundations of
the independent, democratic and sovereign Croatia.
Present at the funeral were Busic's family and relatives, state
officials, a few thousand citizens, his friends and followers.
