ZAGREB, Oct 15 (Hina) - The Croatian oil company Ina said in a
statement Friday that requests for the correction of prices of oil
and oil products would not be met.
Ina's Information and Public Relations Service, informing about
Friday's meeting between Ina's general director Davor Stern and
Prime Minister Zlatko Matesa, said the two "decided that, despite
justified requests for the correction of prices of oil and oil
products, Ina's request will not be met".
At the same time, it was agreed that the payment of debts of state
and pubic companies to Ina should be expedited. These companies are
Croatia's power supply company, Petrokemija from Kutina and
Croatian Railways.
"This will provide Ina with a break to improve liquidity which has
been jeopardised with 1.4 billion (US$200 million) debts to Ina.
There is no doubt that after this Ina will speed up the payment of
its debts amounting to 800 million kuna (US$114 million), the
statement, signed by the Service's head, Mario Dragun, said.
Hina has, during the morning, despite constant efforts, failed to
receive any official information from the Government about the
issue.
Ina's statement was issued late Friday afternoon, after a news
conference held by Economy Minister Nenad Porges and his statement
that he had signed an approval for the correction of prices of oil
products, and had forwarded it to Prime Minister Matesa and Finance
Minister Borislav Skegro for a decision.
Porges did not mention any concrete prices, but said the increase
was less than what Ina had requested.
Ina's last request for a raise in prices was sent by the company on
September 15, asking for a 13.4 to 16.7 per cent increase in prices,
depending on the product.
Ina has this year submitted a total of 11 requests for an increase in
prices, justifying the requests by the increase of prices for oil
products on the global market and the strengthening of the US dollar
in relation to the kuna.
from the beginning of the year two such requests have been granted,
and the prices of oil products rose in the beginning of July (for
petrol and diesel fuel by 3 and 1.4 per cent) and at the beginning of
August when petrol prices went up 4 per cent and diesel fuel by 3.8
per cent.
