UMAG AND MEDULIN UMAG, Sept 20 (Hina) - Two yachts ran aground off the Croatian peninsula of Istria over the weekend. There were no injuries but great damage was caused, Pula port authorities reported on Monday. On Saturday afternoon,
an Italian ship, called "New Shamal", ran aground off Umag. There were 10 people aboard this 14.5-long yacht with Venetian licence plates. The yacht was stranded 800 metres off shore in the shallows of Sipar near Zambratija. The yacht was sailing from the Slovene town of Protoroz toward Umag when the accident happened. The stranded ship was lifted by a floating crane from Rijeka. The second accident took place off a nudist beach of "Fizela" in Medulin when a German seven-metre-long yacht "Odisess" ran aground on Sunday night. There were two persons abroad. The ship was refloated quickly hanks to a speedy intervention of port authorities and several divers.(hina) jn ms
