Monday's trading was affected by heightened risks in the global economy, against the backdrop of the United States' credit rating downgrade and the debt crisis in the eurozone, which was why some of the investors decided to shift their investments from shares to safer assets such as the Swiss franc and gold.
A market analyst said the strong response of the ZSE to global developments was also due to the fact that the ZSE was closed on Friday (5 August) when Croatia celebrated a national holiday and investors had no opportunity to react to the bad news from the global markets, including fears about a spillover of the debt crisis to Italy and Spain.
