ZAGREB, Aug 31 (Hina) - The European Union has not taken any steps
yet concerning relations with Croatia relative to the dispute
between Zagreb and The Hague tribunal, the head of the Croatian
Mission to the EU, Janko Vranyczany-Dobrinovic, told Hina on
Tuesday.
"EU sanctions against Croatia are not expected for now",
Vranyczany-Dobrinovic asserted.
He announced Croatia has not been included on the agenda of a
Wednesday Brussels conference of the political directors of EU
member-countries' foreign ministries.
"It doesn't however mean that (Croatia) won't be mentioned," he
added.
Vranyczany-Dobrinovic said the EU has not forwarded any official
letters or notes to Croatia's state leadership relative to the
Zagreb-The Hague tensions.
Zagreb daily Vecernji List on Tuesday said that a letter of warning
has been sent to Zagreb from Brussels on Monday relative to
relations with the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former
Yugoslavia. The tribunal's president, Gabrielle Kirk McDonald,
last week reported Croatia to the United Nations Security Council
for non-cooperation.
The political adviser of the European Commission's special envoy to
Croatia, Mirela Rasic, confirmed the EU has not discussed relations
with Croatia relative to Croatia's dispute with The Hague tribunal,
and that no letter of warning has been sent.
According to Vranyczany-Dobrinovic, Dutch Ambassador to the EU Ida
van Veldhuizen during talks relative to the dispute at the Croatian
Foreign Ministry on August 27 "pointed out she believes non-
cooperation with the tribunal could have serious repercussions on
future Croatian-EU relations."
