President of the Croatian Government Commission for Missing and
Imprisoned Persons Lieutenant-Colonel Ivan Grujic told reporters
in Vukovar Wednesday about the discovery of a grave site in the yard
of a Vukovar elementary school, where two victims of the Homeland
War have been found so far.
The remains of three other victims have been found in a grave in the
village of Marinci, near Vinkovci.
Preparations are underway to exhume a well in the Nova ulica road in
Vukovar.
There is no saying how many victims will be found in the well, but it
does appear to be a mass grave, Grujic stressed.
A total of 1,720 victims of Serb aggression have so far been exhumed
in Vukovar-Srijem County, 1,307 of whom have been identified.
In the whole of Croatia 2,996 victims have been exhumed, 80 per cent
of whom have been identified.
There are still 1,692 persons registered as missing in Croatia, and
half of them are from Vukovar-Srijem County, Grujic said.
He announced next week's beginning of exhumations in western
Slavonia and Banovina.
Exhumation teams should subsequently return to Vukovar-Srijem
County and begin exhuming victims at already prepared sites in the
town of Ilok and nearby villages.
