Participating are 70 young professionals, legal experts and
economists, non-government activists and students from 17 European
countries, the United States, and Turkey.
Ten professors, mentors, and expert moderators, including a
teacher from Brooklyn and a priest from Avignone, will lecture on
Europe's security, political, and economic institutions, the
spiritual and moral values of European unity, and the social and
educational programmes of the European Union and the Council of
Europe.
This year's academy, the fifth so far, has been organised by the
Zagreb-based Europe House. For the first time, this year the
academy has received the support of the Croatian Institute for the
Protection of Motherhood and Youth and the Croatian government's
Office for Associations.
Participants in the academy will visit Bosnia-Herzegovina, to meet
peers and hear the position of those who suffered the atrocities of
war, as well as Croatia's Plitvice Lakes National Park and the
island of Krk.
The academy closes on August 28.
