SINJ, July 29 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman's envoy at the final ceremony of the 284th Alka to be held in the southern Croatian town of Sinj on August 1 will be the main inspector of the Croatian Armed Forces, Lieutenant
General Ante Gotovina, the Alka Knights Association reported on Thursday. General Gotovina will hand over the gift of the president, a golden ring and a sable, to the winner of this year's Alka, and a silver ring and a kubura (old-fashioned pistol) to his page. "Sinjska Alka" is a traditional three-day tournament held every year in the Croatian town of Sinj, in the hinterland of Split. The tournament, in which lance-wielding horsemen dressed in traditional outfits match their skills as they target a metal ring suspended over a track, is held every year to mark a local victory over the Ottoman Turks in 1715.
